About

I Just feel I want to give some information about myself, in case you are wondering why you should believe anything the “old guy” is saying

I started my IT career in 2007 at company where I joined just in order to get a job, any job. It was through a reference of a friend of mine who was at that time a software developer. It was a lucky break and it was a software company. In those days I was replacing light-bulbs when needed and replacing and soldering in replacement aerials for mobile POS devices. From there I dug in and learnt everything I could. When “the powers that be” saw I was relatively technically inclined they started putting me into tech-support server-install roles. These were still all done manually. From there I got my first exposure to vmWare, Linux, networking, firewalls, Ansible and Jenkins and all the rest. (This was the VERY early/BETA days of docker and I didn’t use it to any decent degree back then.) The biggest contribituting factor in my rapid ontake of knowledge was people who were willing to teach. And I was willing to learn…

Since then I have worked at 6 different companies, the first one or two as Sysops Engineer and the last few as devops engineer and was appointed at my current company as devops team lead where we are a team of 7 awesome engineers and we learn from each other every day. Our age ranges from just-completed-studies to engineers that have been around for quite some time.

I follow the reddit channel r/devops and I often see posts there. I would like to, with my experience and passion for people and technology, give back to the community and I will do so via these blogs. If there are better ways, please leave a comment and let me know.

Lastly, I just need to add this. Do I know the most of devops? No. Am I the most technically skilled engineer around, or even at my company? No. So why should you read what comes out of my very random mind? Because together we learn the best. I have a good skill and talent for working with technology and more importantly people. I have started from the very bottom (Do you know what your c:\ drive is? :-D) and with my experience through the years I believe I can make a valuable contribution.

Thank you for reading this far!
